action的基本意思是“行動,活動”,指某一次行動的方式或過程,尤指為制止壞的局面發(fā)展或繼續(xù)的行動、對他人來說是錯誤或不尋常的舉止行為、激動人心的或重要的活動,往往占較長的時間,包括不同步驟或許多動作,其主語常為物,而不是人。action也可指進行中的“行為”,還可指故事、戲劇或電影的“情節(jié)”,藥物或化學品等的“作用; 效果”,“戰(zhàn)斗; 作戰(zhàn)”等。
action用作可數(shù)名詞時,多用于復數(shù)形式。action的復數(shù)形式在泛指人的“行為”時,常與words相對應。
action在表示戲劇或書中所發(fā)生的主要事件時,常用其單數(shù)形式,其前加定冠詞the。
action在有修飾語時可加不定冠詞,但在take action中,即使有形容詞修飾,也不加不定冠詞。
