- 1300年左右進(jìn)入英語(yǔ),直接源自古法語(yǔ)的present;最初源自拉丁語(yǔ)的prsentem,意為當(dāng)前,迅速。
用法辨析
- present作形容詞表示“出席的,到場(chǎng)的”“存在的,含有的”時(shí)在句中主要用作表語(yǔ),偶爾用作定語(yǔ),一般須后置。表示“現(xiàn)在的,目前的,現(xiàn)行的”“正在處理或討論中的”時(shí)只用作前置定語(yǔ)。
- present無(wú)比較級(jí)和最高級(jí)。
- present用作“現(xiàn)在,目前”解時(shí),通常與定冠詞the連用,只用作單數(shù)名詞。
- present作“禮物”解時(shí),一般指親友間互送的“禮物”或“贈(zèng)品”,多是出于好意、禮貌或尊敬等而予以贈(zèng)送,并不一定期望報(bào)答或回贈(zèng)。是可數(shù)名詞。
- present的基本意思是“出現(xiàn)”,指人時(shí)多指“到場(chǎng)”“出席”,指物或事物時(shí)則指“顯示”。多接反身代詞作賓語(yǔ)。
- present也可作“介紹”“引見(jiàn)”解,多用于涉及的人地位高低不等的場(chǎng)合。

- present和gift的比較:present指“禮物”,但gift可以不是“禮物”。Birthday/Christmas gift中,gift屬于禮物。在別人需要而將東西送給他時(shí),如一本舊書(shū)或是把書(shū)捐給圖書(shū)館,都屬于gift,但不算送“禮”;
